Kate was spotted hanging out with her family, including her children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. Despite the sighting, no photos have emerged online. Sources quoted in People stated that the royal was enjoying time with her loved ones.

In mid-March, Kate made her last public appearance when she and Prince William were filmed leaving a farm shop near their Windsor residence. Before that, her last official royal engagement was in December when she joined the royal family for the traditional walk to Christmas morning service on the Sandringham estate.

After December, Kate kept a low profile, prompting speculation about her health. It was later revealed that she and her father-in-law, King Charles, were admitted to a hospital for their respective illnesses. Kate underwent an unspecified abdominal surgery in January and has been recuperating since.

In a video message released on March 22, Kate announced her cancer diagnosis, saying,

This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family. As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment. But most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte, and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I'm going to be okay. As I've said to them, I am well, and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal, in my mind, body, and spirits.

The palace has not disclosed the type or stage of Kate's cancer, maintaining privacy around her health situation.
