Donald Trump joins TikTok after trying to ban it as president
Former US President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump recently joined TikTok, the Chinese-owned social media platform he attempted to ban during his presidency. Trump garnered a staggering 3 million followers within the first 24 hours of creating his account.

In 2020, Trump issued an executive order to ban TikTok in the United States, citing national security concerns. However, this move was blocked by a federal court. President Joe Biden has since signed legislation requiring ByteDance, TikTok's Chinese parent company, to divest from the app within nine months or face a ban. ByteDance is currently challenging this law in court.

Trump's first TikTok post was a montage of him attending a UFC match in New Jersey over the weekend. The video has already amassed over 56 million views, highlighting the former president's continued influence on social media.

President Biden joined TikTok in February and has around 340,000 followers. His first post on the platform garnered 10 million views, significantly less than Trump's debut performance.
