Pharrell Williams uses LEGO animation to tell his life story.

Pharrell Williams, the iconic musician and producer, is bringing his life story to the screen in a unique way through LEGO animation. The new film, Piece by Piece, debuted its first trailer on June 6, showcasing this innovative project.


The film, described as a "unique cinematic experience," is directed by Oscar-winner Morgan Neville. It promises to take audiences on a vibrant journey through Williams' life, emphasizing his evolution as one of music's most innovative minds. The synopsis states, "Told through the lens of LEGO animation, turn up the volume on your imagination and witness the evolution of one of music's most innovative minds."



The cast of Piece by Piece includes a star-studded lineup featuring Gwen Stefani, Kendrick Lamar, Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, Busta Rhymes, JAY-Z, and Snoop Dogg.


Pharrell Williams' vision
In a statement when the project was announced in January, Pharrell Williams expressed his excitement and honor in sharing his story through LEGO bricks. He said, "When I had this crazy vision to tell this story through LEGO bricks, I couldn't have imagined a better partner than [director] Morgan. He is a legend."


Williams also highlighted the inspirational aspect of the project, noting, "Building with LEGO bricks encourages us to follow our imagination who would've thought that playing with these toys as a kid would evolve into a movie about my life. It's proof that anyone else can do it too."

Previous LEGO films
Piece by Piece follows in the footsteps of several successful animated LEGO films, including Chris Pratt's The LEGO Movie (2014) and its 2019 sequel, as well as Will Arnett's The LEGO Batman Movie (2017).

The film is set to hit theaters on October 11. Williams, along with his creative collective i am OTHER, collaborated with director Neville's company Tremolo Productions, the LEGO Group, Focus Features, Pure Imagination Studios, and creator platform Tongal to bring this imaginative project to life.
