authorities confirm the accidental drowning

The 13-year-old girl found unresponsive at Discovery Cove in Orlando died from accidental drowning, officials confirm.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) Authorities have determined that a 13-year-old girl's death earlier this week at Discovery Cove, a central Florida marine-themed park, was due to an accidental drowning.

The girl was pronounced dead at a hospital on Wednesday, a day after she was found unresponsive in a pool at Discovery Cove, an Orlando marine park where visitors swim with dolphins and tropical fish, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Discovery Cove spans 58 acres (23 hectares) and is adjacent to SeaWorld Orlando.

On Thursday, the Orlando medical examiner's office confirmed the manner of death as accidental, with drowning cited as the cause.

A spokeswoman for the theme park did not immediately respond to an email inquiry regarding the incident.

Discovery Cove is part of United Parks & Resorts Inc., formerly SeaWorld Entertainment, Inc., which changed its corporate name in February. The company's other park brands include SeaWorld, Busch Gardens, Discovery Cove, and Sesame Place.
